Chapel Hill knocks off Riverside behind balanced scoring attack, 62-57

Durham, N.C. — Chapel Hill survived a late Riverside surge to hold on and beat the Pirates, 62-57.

Four Tigers finished with at least nine points and one finished with eight.

Jermaine Burnett led the Tigers with 12 points. Jack Grubbs finished with 10, Isaac Sinclair and Grant Ferris both added 9 points. 

The Tigers played strong defensively early in the first half. Towards the end of the second, Riverside put points on the board.

They trailed 31-23 at halftime but scored most of the points down the stretch.

Riverside carried the momentum through halftime and fought back in the third. They rallied to tie the game 36-36.

Chapel Hill responded to take the 39-36 lead.

Torian Regis led the Pirates in the third, he had nine of his fifteen points in the third.

Taylor Clark hit a three at the buzzer to give Chapel Hill the 48-40 lead at the end of the third.

Riverside had multiple looks at the end of the game to tie it but they were unable to finish.

The Tigers closed it out with two free throws from Seth Morton.

Chapel Hill held on to take the game 62-57 and win its third game of the season.

Riverside falls to 2-2. They have two more games before opening conference play next week at home against Jordan.
